I met one of clients of the community house on Grandview Crescent at Church today. His name is Graham Russell. He used to go to Saint Martins, the Anglican Church in the valley. Now he needs a frame to support himself and his home has decided it would be easier for him to go to Opoho. He arrived at church before me and his staff person took him to the toilet. We sat together at the back of the church. He asked if there was communion – Anglican churches have communion weekly and it is important to him. Presbyterian churches observe communion less often, four times a year at least. Then at the end of the service he asked for prayer. We went forward. One of the other members called Hana who had preached that day. He knelt down and she said a short prayer over him, which left him happy. He stayed for morning tea and his staff person returned to take him home.

Felicity arrived soon after as I had suggested inviting her to talk to the adult study group after church about the work of Friend-Link. It was a small group which found the discussion interesting.

I came home about half past twelve, had lunch and sat down in front of the computer. Then Harry visited. He wanted the dvd from Joe that had the first part of Legends of the Rangers. We found it and I made a pot of tea. We showed where the house on Frame Street that we are looking at is, and he departed. I loaned him my copy of The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents by Terry Pratchett. Joe hasn’t read it yet.

I suggested to Joe that we walk across town to Mornington to look at a house that was available to rent. It took us well over an hour to get there. The house was vacant and we had a chance to scope out the section. It was a lovely house, brick walls and a tile roof, nestled in among bushes below the level of the street. It is a problem for us. It was nice, but we have no car and the nearest supermarket is over twenty minutes away. The nearest shop is up the top of Mary Hill. We zigzaged over Mornington and back looking for facilities. The house was too far away from them. I would not like to be going to and fro from Opoho church either. As well as church services I have several meetings there a month now. This attachment makes me reluctant to move out of the north end.

It was after nine o’clock at night when we got home. We have been walking for five hours. I was exhausted. I made lemon chicken for our tea, Mike had gone out, and we watched the second half of The Matrix which was playing on tv. The front door was not snibbing properly, and the wind came up strong enough that it was blowing open. We called our landlord and he came around and adjusted the position of the catch on the door. That was sufficient to solve the problem.
