The Door swings shut one way.

I plan to be away on Sunday afternoon as my Scottish uncle died down south and his funeral is on Monday. He collapsed last week in the rest home where he lived. Before his family could remove him from there to their own care at home he passed away. That is the last of the uncles living in New Zealand. My father’s brother is still alive in Bananaphagia, and his sister and brother-in-law in England. I still have a quota of ageing aunts; my mother and other siblings of my generation and their children.

I don’t follow the news much nowadays — translation: if at all. So I was quite surprised with the extent of the boycott that has happened toward ‘s sacking from Subway. I noted the graffiti on the pavement outside Subway on George Street when I walked passed it. Then today I read clicked on a link to Russell Brown’s Public Address blog and discovered at the end of one entry that he had joined the bloggers’ boycott of Subway. The link is here (scroll down to the bottom of the entry). I’m impressed; Hard News is probably the most significant blogging on current affairs going on in New Zealand today.

Stealing Electricity, Tom Russell

There’s a Mexican dead up on a power line
He’s deader than yesterday’s communion wine
He was trying to getting something he couldn’t afford for free
He was just a poor man stealing electricity
His heart went da da da da da da da
da da da da da da da

. . .

10,000 volts and now he’s gone
He’s hanging on a cross-tire above Babylon
Hey baby ain’t that just like you and me
Love is like stealing electricity
Two hearts go da da da da da da da
da da da da da da da

When the poverty of your spirit and the weakness of your flesh
Go dancing every night through other people’s trash
You don’t love yourself baby, what the hell you’re doing with me
You’re gonna burn baby burn stealing electricity
Two hearts go da da da da da da da, da da da da da da da

We all climb so high in search of the kindred soul
Till we grab hold to a live wire up on a highline pole
The laws of nature say you get nothing for free
Love is like stealing Electricity
Two hearts go da da da da da da da, da da da da da da da

. . .

There’s a Mexican dead up on a power line
He’s deader than yesterday’s communion wine
He was trying to getting something he couldn’t afford for free
He was just a poor man stealing electricity
His heart when da da da da da da da
da da da da da da da

His heart when da da da da da da da
da da da da da da da

What Flavour Are You? Hot hot! I am Curry Flavoured.Hot hot! I am Curry Flavoured.

I have a spicy personality. If you can take the heat, you’ll love me, if not, I’ll probably make you cry. I am not for the faint-hearted. What Flavour Are You?

Back from Invercargill where the clan gathered to celebrate our mother’s 75th birthday. She senior-citicized before our very eyes, gentrified even.

Started on a GURPS campaign with my flatmates. It is set in a part of Hypercronius about which Dave and I had not written when we were writing our shared novel. The challenge is in doing the preparation for each session.
