I have just returned Hav by Jan Morris to the library. It is an update of her earlier novel Last Letters from Hav, adding a journal of her visit to the eastern Mediterranean city-state in 2006, twenty years after the original novel. Like the earlier story it is no less an allegory about how travel writers can speak authoratively about events over which they have no control. It provides no answers to these uncertainties.

Ironically Wikipedia has next to no information about Hav; which strikes me as quite appropriate!
